The sponsoring institution, New Hanover Regional Medical Center, has long provided graduate medical education in Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Recognizing the significant health care needs of Southeastern North Carolina, NHRMC has taken an important step forward by aggressively supporting residency education in Family Medicine at this institution. South East Area Health Education Center

The South East Area Health Education Center is one of nine members of North Carolina's incomparable AHEC system. SEAHEC has distinguished itself by meeting its regional education mandate to the five-county area it serves in Southeastern North Carolina. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is our primary academic affiliation. It is this country's oldest public institution of higher learning. The School of Medicine, long known for its high-profile, subspecialty medical education, has emerged in the last decade as one of the nation's premiere institutions for education in Family Medicine. Rated in 2006 by US News and World Report as the #2 Family Medicine Program in the country.
